  • Frequently Asked Questions:

Are your cats and kittens in your home? YES! ALL my cats and kittens are in my home and our pets. They are free-roaming and have excellent manners even though they are not spayed/neutered. They also have their own cat room and catio, and the door is always open to the cat room (but not at night). I also have two kitten nurseries. Videos are on this website. Anyone who is picking their kitten up, will meet all my cats and get a tour of our home cattery.

When do the kittens go home? At 12 to 13 weeks of age. The prescheduled pickup date for the families coming here to get their kitten is always prescheduled on a Saturday only. Please make sure that you have freed your schedule, so that you can get your kitten on the prescheduled Saturday—I do not make exceptions, so please don't ask. I will let you know the date in plenty of time. I typically have families come to my home around 12:00 to 2:00 pm mountain standard. All pickup families come the same day so that I do not have people coming on several different days throughout the week (I have a family, a life, and activities outside of breeding). Thank you for preplanning your schedule around your new kitten. For families needing a flight nanny, the flight nanny dates are prescheduled separately.

Will I receive pictures and updates of the kitten that I reserved before I bring them home? Yes, I send a new picture update every two weeks until your kitten goes home, and this is done from the time we know which kitten is yours, until they go home. Sometimes I also post videos on my Cattery social media pages of the kittens too. I also send my clients a few helpful emails before they go home to help them be more prepared for their new kitten. All kittens are also sent home with this WELCOME HOME KITTEN CARE PACKAGE.

What size are your Maine Coons? My Maine Coon's are within the higher weight range for the breed or exceed the weight range. BREED STANDARD: Mass: Male: 13 – 18 lbs (Adult), Female: 7.9 – 12 lbs (Adult). Maine Coon's are built with long bodies, 3.3 feet from head to tail. NOTE: My Maine Coons males are usually 18 to 23 pounds, and my females are usually 14 to 19 pounds. My male Maverick does exceed the standard size and is a larger male Maine Coon at 22 pounds lean. My females also exceed the average size for a female around 13 to 16 pounds lean. I do have larger Maine Coons but without compromising their health by being obese.

What colors do you have? The kitten color list is on the Available Kittens Page at the bottom.

Are your adults and kittens registered? Yes, with TICA, and TICA is the largest cat registry in the world. Kittens are sent home with TICA pet-registration paperwork. My Cattery is also registered with TICA (MountainPeakMC).

Do you offer breeding rights or showing? NO BREEDING RIGHTS, my kittens are for pet homes only. I do NOT give breeding rights and I require spay/neuter at 6 months of age or sooner.

Do you DNA health test? Yes, through Optimal Selection Feline Genetic Breeding Analysis which is also affiliated with TICA & the OFA. DNA TESTED FOR: Cystinuria; SCL7A9 mutation: c.881A>T, Erythrocyte Pyruvate Kinase (PKD) Deficiency, Factor XII Deficiency, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (MYBPC3 mutation: A31P found in Maine Coon -- HCM), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)/Spinal Muscular Dystrophy, Blood-brain Barrier Dysfunction, MDR1 / ABCB1

Do your adults and kittens have a regular veterinarian for check-ups and vaccines? Yes, all my cats see a vet annually or as needed. All kittens receive a veterinarian exam (the exam includes the entire body, eyes, ears, heart, lungs, and more), first vaccines by my veterinarian, and a nail trim too. The veterinarian paperwork is sent home with each kitten. All breeders should be able to guarantee that the kitten will receive a vet exam before going home & that the vet paperwork will be sent home with the kitten too.

Do you have a health contract? Yes, I have a two-year health contract.

How do I get on your Deposit List? Fill out an APPLICATION and I will get back with you right away or within 24 hours. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder for my reply, as it sometimes ends up in the junk/spam folder vs the Inbox.

Where are you located? I am now located in Colorado (the Colorado Springs area). But over 90% of my clients live out-of-state and use the flight nanny option for delivery. I have lived most of my 40 plus years in Indiana, until recently when I moved to Colorado in 2021 to be near my children who also live out west.

Do you have long distance delivery options? I do have personal long distance delivery options available. Over 90% of my clients use the flight nanny service, so I have a lot of references for how wonderful this service is. Your kitten will be in the constant care of the flight nanny during the journey, and they communicate with us throughout. I do setup the flight nanny and you do not have to do anything but meet the nanny at your nearest airport. CLICK LINK. The kitten is cared for the entire time... going from my arms to the flight nanny's arms, to yours.

How much are your Maine Coon kittens? The deposit is $500 (the deposit is a portion of the total price). Kittens range in price from $2200 to $3700. My specific PRICES for color and gender are provided on the KITTEN PRICING PAGE.

What are your Payment Options?
Deposit payment options are Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, Square via Credit Card (send invoice to your email to pay via Credit Card), or a money order or personal or cashier check. Final payment option after the kitten is born is Zelle or a money order or a personal or cashier check ONLY, (may occasionally accept Credit Card payment via Square online invoice).

Visitors and Pick-up Policy? My Cattery is in my private home, and my home is not open to the public for safety reasons, but I do have the kitten pick-up at my home when it's time for kittens to go home. Anyone coming here gets a full tour of my home and you get to meet all my adults cats too. When I get my cats from Europe, I have to trust the breeder and so I use the online tools available to verify their cattery. Here are ways to do that with mine....

Testimony Page:
Be sure to visit the Testimony page on this website. I have linked over 20 Instagram accounts of past kittens you can follow that their families created for them. Also, on the testimony page are a lot of email testimonies to read through. Visit my social media cattery pages as I share testimonies from families all the time and pictures.

Social Media:
  • Instagram, follow mountain_peak_maine_coon and interact with me and past clients.
  • Instagram, follow the many past clients who have created Instagram's of their kittens from me, the Instagram's are linked on THIS TESTIMONY PAGE.
  • Facebook, like and follow Mountain Peak Maine Coons and interact with me and past clients.
  • Watch all the videos I have posted on this page, including videos of my kittens at the vet.
  • Many of my past clients have two and even three Maine Coons from me.

My Verifications or Registries:
  • I am a registered cattery with TICA (MountainPeakMC). Call their customer service for details (Daphne Riggs, in CO, Mountain PeakMC)
  • I am a verified business on my Facebook Fan page.
  • My business, Mountain Peak Maine Coons, is a verified Google business.
  • Mountain Peak Maine Coon is a sole proprietorship, and we have a current CO sales license.

Although visiting kittens is fun, there is no health benefit or bonding that occurs from that visit and strangers can even cause stress to young kittens and my adults. Humans can pass certain flu viruses to cats/kittens too. Once you take your kitten home, they quickly bond to you and your family.

While you wait to take your kitten home, I also provide bi-weekly picture updates as the kitten grows and occasionally videos too.

IS MY LONGHAIRED CAT A MAINE COON?
