Frequently Asked Questions Below.
▶️ Do your cats and kittens live in your home? Yes! As a small hobby cattery, we only have a few litters a year, which allows us to run our program more intimately and with a personal touch. Our Queens and King are right here in our home, as part of our family. They have impeccable manners, even without being spayed or neutered, and enjoy a dedicated cat room with an attached Catio they have free access to at all times. Our kittens are raised underfoot and surrounded by love from day one, and you can see videos of our home cattery all over this website and our social media pages. We’re so proud of the incredibly well-socialized kittens we raise, and we get endless compliments from new families about how quickly they adapt and how sweet and outgoing they are. It’s a real testament to the benefits of keeping things small and personal!
▶️ When do the kittens go home?
Kittens go to their new homes at 13 to 14 weeks of age. Pickup is always prescheduled for a Saturday. Please ensure you are available on the specified Saturday, as rarely are exceptions made. Families typically come between 1:00 to 2:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. For those needing a flight nanny, separate dates will be scheduled, and flight nanny details are below.
▶️ Will I receive pictures and updates of my reserved kitten before bringing them home?
Yes, I send picture updates every two weeks from the time we identify your kitten until they go home. I also post videos on our social media pages and send helpful emails to prepare you for your new kitten. Deposit list applicants are contacted when the kittens are 8 to 10 weeks old.
▶️ How can I verify your cattery?
TESTIMONIES: Visit our Testimony page, I share Instagram links to past clients and email testimonies.
VERIFIED BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: We are a verified business on Facebook and Instagram (blue check mark). Verification requirements for a business on META, you must submit your tax ID with your businesses name and submit your personal government issued ID. **Mountain Peak Maine Coon Instagram. **Mountain Peak Maine Coon Facebook
GOOGLE BUSINESS VERIFICATION: We are a verified Google business. One of the requirements is to submit a video of your business and show the location, such as showing street signs and etc.
THE INTERNATIONAL CAT ASSOCIATION (TICA) VERIFICATION: we are a registered cattery with TICA (MountainPeakMC). To verify, call TICA customer service at (956) 428-804. Provide this information: Mountain Peak MC, TICA Cattery ID #103266, Breeder is Daphne Riggs. Please note that the TICA website no longer lists all catteries; only those who pay yearly to be listed and agree to early spay/neuter are included. My reproductive vet does not recommend spaying/neutering before a minimum age of 20 weeks (I trust their expertise in this specialized field; therefore, I will not be paying to be listed on their website at this time). LOCATION UPDATE: My location for TICA will be changing in June/July 2025 to Florida.
FACETIME OPTION: If I have a kitten available and you would like to Facetime before sending a deposit, I am happy to do that with you. But this will be for serious inquiries only and after you've filled out an application and been pre-approved. Please also be courteous of my time.
▶️ What is included with the price of the kitten?
Each kitten comes with a WELCOME HOME KITTEN CARE PACKAGE.
▶️ What size are your Maine Coons?
Our Maine Coons are within or exceed the higher weight range for the breed. Male adults typically weigh 18 to 23 pounds, and female adults weigh 14 to 19 pounds. We focus on maintaining a healthy weight/size without compromising their health.
▶️ What colors do you have?
We have a variety of colors including mostly Black Smoke but also Black, Silver Tabby, Silver Torbie, Black Smoke Tortie, Black Tortie, Red Tabby, Red Smoke, and Black/Brown Tabby. We now also have Blue Smoke, Blue Tortie, Blue and Blue Tabby.
▶️ Are your adults and kittens registered?
Yes, we are a registered cattery with TICA (MountainPeakMC). My reproductive vet does not recommend spaying/neutering before a minimum age of 20 weeks. I trust their expertise in this specialized field; therefore, I will not be paying to be listed on their website at this time. **Note, I will be moving back to Florida starting in June 2025 but any family in CO waiting on a kitten, I will get your kitten to you at no extra fee (if it is ready to go home after I have moved to Florida). I have a lot of family living in FL ( aging parents, daughter, and other family).
▶️ Do you offer breeding rights or showing?
No, our kittens are for pet homes only and must be spayed/neutered by 6 to 9 months of age, I do not send home TICA paperwork until proof that the kitten has been altered. Maine Coons are at risk right now due to their growing popularity. We’re seeing an increase in overbreeding and in people entering the breed without fully understanding the long-term expenses, the need for a reproductive vet, zero knowledge on feline reproduction, or the importance of placing kittens in carefully vetted homes. This is such an important conversation within the breed community right now.
▶️ Do you DNA health test the parents?
Yes, through Optimal Selection Feline Genetic Breeding Analysis, affiliated with TICA & the OFA. We test for various conditions including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), and more. Keep in mind that all of these disorders would require that both parents are carriers to pass it down to their offspring. Each of these disorders require a copy from each parent's to potentially be an issue.
▶️ Do your adults and kittens have regular veterinarian check-ups and vaccines?
Yes, all our cats see a vet annually or as needed. Each kitten receives a full veterinarian exam, first vaccines, and a nail trim before going home. Veterinarian paperwork is provided with each kitten. Check out our Welcome Home Kitten Care Packet.
▶️ Are you cats tested for FIV and FeLV? As for FIV and FeLV, these viruses aren’t present in purebred kittens, and it’s important to understand how they work. FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) are spread through direct contact, like deep bite wounds or sharing bodily fluids. Purebred cats in breeding programs don’t go outside, don’t mix with ferals, and aren’t exposed to high-risk environments. That said, my parent cats were tested anyway—it’s required by import law. Here’s something a lot of people don’t realize: FeLV and FIV cause infertility, miscarriage, and other reproductive issues. A cat carrying either virus wouldn’t be able to breed successfully, which means both diseases would completely end a breeding program.
▶️ Do you have a health contract?
Yes, we offer a two-year health contract.
▶️ How do I get on your Deposit Wait List?
Fill out a KITTEN APPLICATION, and I will respond within 24 hours. Check your junk/spam folder for my reply. My deposit list is typically booked out 9 to 12 months in advance.
▶️ Where are you located?
We have moved from CO to Freeport, Florida. But anyone in CO who is waiting on their kitten who placed a deposit prior to June 2025, we will deliver the kitten to CO at our own expense. Over 90% of our clients are out-of-state and use the flight nanny option for delivery, see those details linked HERE.

Yes, we offer personal long-distance delivery options from our arms to yours. Most of our clients use the flight nanny service, which ensures your kitten is in constant care during the journey. Click the link to read about our personal flight nanny service click HERE.
▶️ How much are your Maine Coon kittens?

▶️ Visitor and Pickup Policy?

▶️ Is my longhaired cat a Maine Coon?

If you have further questions, please email me at [email protected] or text 719-641-2763. I tend to be easier to reach via email, as I have learned over the past 14 years of raising companion pets that many folds will keep me on the phone for hours and not consider my time.
